Pink Floral Little Pillow Complete!

This small pillow is ring bearer size, 8.5 x 8.5 inches. My friend pointed out that her mother had a little pillow she hung from a ribbon and kept her brooches on. Great idea. The materials are listed below the picture.

Materials:

• 8 1/2 inch pillow form, ring bearer size
  
• One fat quarter Cohama/Riverdale vintage new “Celia” fabric
  
• One yard of 3 inch ribbon loop chalk white fringe inserted and sewn in place.
  
• 9 inches each of chalk white 3 inch ribbon loop fringe and 2 inch rose petal ribbon loop fringe wound to make a rosette and slip stitched securely in place.
  
• Vintage pearl and crystal pin on the top.
  
• Rosette could be snipped off to wear as a pin or hair clip by adding either of those backings. (Wonderful way to remember your wedding day!)
  
• The back has a slip pocket finish so the cover comes off easily.

What would I do with this little precious?

• Add a side to side coordinating ribbon on top to hang from a wall hanger or hook or door handle. Add more vintage pins to show off a collection.
  
• Add a ribbon in the center by winding it around the rosette to hold a ring.
  
• If it was used in my wedding, I would remove the rosette and add a hair clip or pin back, and wear it as a reminder of my special day.
  
• Or, just set it in a cherished spot to admire!

Pink Inspiration

We all went back to work Wednesday after being off since December 17th. Of course, the to do list continued to burgeon over those three weeks. Both my husband and I agreed we were overwhelmed by our three days at work, but happy the weekend came quickly.

My little pillow I planned to show off this Saturday is almost complete. I was running out of light for photography and decided to save that reveal for next time.

I AM so excited that I did start a project which was in planning for almost four years. Inspiration packets! Although it isn’t a handmade confection, it did take a surprisingly long time to gather up the treasures.

You may easily be able to create one of your own from items on hand. It is a lovely gift idea for a special friend!

• A generous fat quarter of older Ralph Lauren floral upholstery weight fabric
• 36 inches of 3 inch drop ribbon loop (loopy fringe) on a rose stamped tag
• Pink tipped flower with a pin backing and vintage pink button center
• 36 inches of precious pink sequin flowers on organza to use in a strip or cut apart into individual flower accents
• Handmade ivory flower pin with a faux pearl center
• 5 yards of soft vintage pink grosgrain ribbon
• Pale pink and ivory seed bead chair tie to use as is or deconstruct into shimmering bead accents
• Denim butterfly appliqué with pink sequin and seed bead detail
• Silk floral rosebud
• Pale pink chain style tassel
• 5 yards of pink seam binding on a white tag
• Pink organza pouch

December 17, 1903 Owego NY Tioga County Record

 

I have always known my great grandmother died as a result of childbirth. My grandmother was born on December 13, 1903 and in four days she was without a mother.

My grandmother was named Leoria just as her mother was twenty-two years earlier and adopted by her mother’s parents.

Great-grandmother: Leoria Carolyn Wilbur Meeker

Grandmother: Leoria Carolyn Meeker Wilbur

She told me this story many times always emphasizing they had the same names with the last names reversed.

The trained psychologist portion of me is going all the places you are and more. This baby is without her mother and then adopted by her older grandparents. Her grandfather “father” fought in The Civil War. And, they lost their only child. Wow! It must have been tough for little Leoria.

Other things of  note in this little piece:

• Julia Tripp must be a sister-in-law of Lavina Tripp Wilbur, my grandmother’s grandmother soon to be adoptive mother.
• Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Tripp were my great-great-grandmother’s parents who lived in Owego.

Pink Pillow Project

Our son is here for the holidays and my husband took three weeks off. We are still in vacation mode. But, I can plan.
